Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, biometric identifiers were serving an important role in American lives. Experts predict that to facilitate contactless transactions, post-pandemic businesses will increasingly rely on biometrics, especially facial-recognition technology. This article discusses some of the purposes, privacy concerns, and legal issues regarding biometric data, highlighting the need for a federal act that governs its use.
